Picture Portraits

I thought I would spend the rest of this week talking about pictures. Reason: probably a mix of my organizational class, the New Year and the fact that I have been in my house 3 1/2 years now.

I just love pictures, who doesn't? Blogs are notorious for pictures and capturing the essential of life, craft projects, food, children and much more.

Last week I was looking around my house and thought. I am tired of all my pictures. In my bedroom, in the living room, down the hall. I need a change.

I started by taking an inventory. What pictures were permanent and what could be changed. I realized what would make me happy was to change most of the photos currently in the house. 3 1/2 years is a long time to look at the same photo(s) day after day. It would be like a little mini picture makeover. For example:

In my bedroom, the color scheme is neutrals. I am usually a color girl, (and my bedroom has some color) it just also has alot of neutrals. I have a pottery barn bed that has a warm clear wood finish and all my sheets are white. The walls are a slight yellow color but at different times of the day the color palette ranges dramatically from cream to yellow. When we moved into the house I thought it would be fun to take my collection of white frames and put family black and white photos in them. The photos are a fun conglomeration, boys single, mom and baby, dad and son, just my husband and I. But 3 1/2 years is a long time to say goodnight to the same photos.

So..... out with the old and in with the new.

Yesterday afternoon I took my picture discs to Costco and had new pictures printed. The reason I chose Costco was: 1) literally Costco is almost around the corner from me. Easy, fast and in 1 hour I can have my photos (if I want!) 2) Cost ~ pennies to the dollar compared to other big time shops for enlargements. (a 12 x 12 photo is only $2.99) 3) I am not professionally framing these pictures. No need to spend the big bucks on printing for store bought frame pictures and hopefully then won't be on display for another 3 years! Just a quick cheap fix.

Today, I plan to stop by and pick up my photos. I will show you the results tomorrow!

funny, I was having the same thought. It's just a matter of choosing new ones. Can't wait to see what you've done.

When we moved to Utah we got rid of all our frames (then again I didn't have anything professionally done) and I boxed all the photos, thinking when we moved I'd get new frames and organize and change things up... but, it hasn't happened yet. It's driving me nuts-but-at this point we are likely moving again so what is that point? It feels like a lose lose, but I love coming to your house and seeing all your photos!!!

I can't wait to see your new look. Change always scares me, but then I end up loving it.
